Supporting your long-term oral health
Preventive dental care focuses on maintaining healthy teeth and gums, identifying concerns early, and reducing the likelihood of more complex problems developing.
Following an individual assessment, our team can recommend an appropriate schedule for examinations, professional cleaning, and preventive treatments based on your oral health, medical history, and individual risk factors.
Our preventive services
Dental check-ups
Regular dental check-ups allow your dentist to examine your teeth, gums, bite, and existing dental work. The appointment is also an opportunity to discuss pain, sensitivity, changes in your mouth or any other concerns. Diagnostic imaging or additional assessment may be recommended when clinically appropriate.
Dental hygiene and cleaning
Professional dental cleaning removes plaque, hardened deposits, and surface staining that cannot always be fully managed through brushing and flossing alone. Your appointment may also include an assessment of your gum health and personalised guidance for maintaining your teeth between visits.
Gum-health assessment
A gum-health assessment examines the gums and supporting tissues around your teeth. The clinician may check for bleeding, inflammation, recession, and changes in the spaces around the teeth. The findings help determine whether routine cleaning, periodontal treatment or continued monitoring may be appropriate.
Periodontal deep cleaning
Periodontal deep cleaning may be recommended when plaque and hardened deposits have accumulated below the gumline. The treatment carefully cleans around the tooth roots to help manage gum disease. The number of appointments and whether local anaesthetic is required will depend on the individual case.
Diagnostic imaging
Dental X-rays and other appropriate diagnostic images help the dentist examine areas that may not be visible during a routine clinical examination. They may be used to assess concerns involving decay, tooth roots, bone levels, developing teeth or treatment planning. Imaging is recommended only when clinically appropriate.
Sports mouthguards
A custom-made sports mouthguard is designed to fit comfortably over the teeth and help reduce the risk of dental injury during physical activity. It may be recommended for adults or children participating in contact sports or activities where the teeth and mouth could be affected by impact.
Night guards
A night guard is a custom-made appliance worn during sleep to help protect the teeth from the effects of clenching or grinding. Following an assessment, the dentist can determine whether a night guard is suitable and explain how it should be worn, cleaned, and maintained.
Pit-and-fissure sealants
Pit-and-fissure sealants are thin protective coatings applied to the grooves of selected back teeth. These grooves can be difficult to clean effectively and may be more vulnerable to decay. Suitability depends on the condition of the tooth and the patient’s individual risk factors.
Fluoride treatment
Professional fluoride treatment is applied directly to the teeth to help strengthen enamel and reduce the risk of tooth decay. It may be recommended for children or adults based on their oral health and individual risk factors. The clinician will advise whether treatment is appropriate and how frequently it may be needed.
Important information
Preventive-care needs vary between patients. The recommended type and frequency of appointments will depend on your current oral health, risk factors and the findings from your clinical assessment.
